Police investigating after armed robbery at Ballina

An investigation is underway following an armed robbery on the state's Far North Coast yesterday.

About 8.50pm (Thursday 21 May 2020), a 23-year-old employee was working at a service station in River Street, Ballina, when he was approached by a man at the counter.

Police have been told the man armed with a knife threatened the employee and demanded cash.

The man stole cash and fled the scene on foot.

Officers from Richmond Police District were notified and have commenced an investigation.

Detectives would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them with their inquiries. Detective are also seeking any further witnesses who may have seen this male to contact Crime Stoppers or their local police station.

The man is described as being of a Caucasian appearance, aged in his 20s, about 178cm tall, and of large build.

He was last seen wearing black pants, dark blue hoody, black puffer vest and dark coloured Nike shoes.

Inquiries are continuing.
