Police investigating after assault and building fire - Surry Hills

An investigation is underway following an assault and building fire in Surry Hills.

Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a building on Crown Street, Surry Hills, just after 11am.

Fire and Rescue NSW are currently working to extinguish the fire.

A man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for suspected stab wounds and fire-related injuries before being taken to hospital.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command have established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.

Road closures are in place on Crown Street, between Foveaux and Cleveland Streets, which are expected to impact on some bus services and local traffic.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
