Police investigating robbery at Alice Springs

A 28 year-old male is in hospital after smashing a window causing a laceration to his wrist while trying to resist police earlier today.

Police attended the male's home address in Alice Springs after he was identified on CCTV allegedly attempting to steal clothing from a business in the town's CBD this morning. The proprietor of the business stopped the theft and was allegedly assaulted.

When police arrived at the home the male allegedly resisted arrest and became barricaded in a bathroom after throwing glass items at police.

While barricaded in the bathroom the offender smashed a window which caused a laceration to his wrist and an arterial bleed.

Members then forced their way into the bathroom where a short struggle ensued and the man was tasered during the arrest.

After applying first aid, police conveyed the male to the Alice Springs Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

The matter is being treated as a Serious Custody Incident.
