Police investigating unlawful road race in Howrah, TAS

Police are investigating an unlawful road race in Howrah last night where one driver was charged and another remains outstanding, Tasmania Police say.

Around 6:39pm last night, police detected two cars racing each other on South Arm Highway at Howrah, travelling in excess of 50km/hr above the speed limit.

One of the vehicles, a black Toyota Soarer was intercepted by police. A 20-year-old Lauderdale man was arrested and bailed to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court for operating a vehicle in a public place in a race against another vehicle, and for exceeding the speed limit by 56km/hr. His vehicle was clamped by police for a period of 28 days.

The other vehicle, a white Nissan Skyline, did not stop for police. Anyone who saw this vehicle in the Howrah area last night and/or knows the identity of the owner/driver is asked to contact Acting Sergeant Robert Bessell at Bellerive Police Station on 6230 2111 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
