Police invstigate aggravated burglary in Cairnlea

Police are investigating an aggravated burglary and assault in Cairnlea this morning (26 April).

Investigators believe four males wearing balaclavas forced their way into a Station Road property about 2.50am.

One of the occupants, a 50-year-old man, was woken by the intruders and a scuffle ensued.

The man sustained a number of stab wounds and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A 33-year-old woman and three children, aged 17, 16 and five, were also home at the time and were not physically injured.

The offenders are believed to have fled south on Station Road in a white Holden Commodore station wagon.
