Police launch investigation into stolen vehicles, car destroyed by fire at Tamworth

Police are appealing for information after a stolen vehicle destroyed by fire in the state's north east overnight.

About 1am today (Friday 21 August 2020), officers attached to Oxley Police District were patrolling South Tamworth in relation to several stolen vehicles driving within the area.

Police sighted a Hyundai IX35 on Parry Street which accelerated away harshly after seeing police.

A pursuit was initiated, however it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Police attended a home on Burnside Avenue and spoke with the owner of the Hyundai who revealed the vehicle had been stolen from the location.

At 1.50am, police located the Hyundai destroyed by fire on Warwick Road, Hillvue.

Police commenced inquiries into the matter.

About 2.25am, police sighted a stolen Hilux utility on Garden Street and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated due to safety concerns.

At 4.20am, the Hilux was located in Macgregor Street, West Tamworth.

The utility was towed from the location for forensic examination.

Police urge anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incidents, to contact Tamworth Police Station on 6768 2999.
