Police Lay Armed Robbery Charges At Carina

The Queensland Police Service have charged a 23-year-old Birtinya man following an alleged armed robbery at Carina on 5 September.

It will be alleged that around 1.30pm, the man armed with a knife approached a 69-year-old man at a laundromat on Creek Road and demanded his car keys and mobile phone.

The man allegedly assaulted the victim before taking his keys and leaving in the victim's grey BMW X5.

The 69-year-old man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following investigations, the vehicle was tracked to a service station on Ferry Road in Southport, where a 23-year-old Birtinya man was arrested about 45 minutes after the alleged offence.

The man has been charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court today, 7 September.
