Police lay armed robbery charges at Ipswich

Detectives from Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following investigations into two alleged armed robberies in the Ipswich area last week.

Police will allege the man attended a tobacco shop in West Ipswich around 9am on August 20, before threatening a female shop assistant with a knife and stealing a quantity of cigarettes.

It will be further alleged that the man, later that same day, attended another tobacco store in Silkstone at around 1pm and threatened another female shop assistant with a knife before fleeing with cigarettes and a sum of cash.

The two shop assistants were not physically injured.

The man was arrested without incident in Bracken Ridge by detectives on August 26.

A 20-year-old Woodend man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery. He was remanded to re-appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 9.
