Police lay assault charges at Burleigh Waters

Police have charged two men following an alleged assault at a licenced venue in Burleigh Waters this morning, October 24.

Emergency crews were called to the Classic Way address just after 12am to reports of a disturbance.

It will be alleged a security guard was attempting to evict two male patrons when the man was cut with a knife.

Another man, aged 37-years-old, attempted to intervene when the duo allegedly struck him in the head, causing him to fall to the ground where they continued assaulting him.

Upon arrival, police attempted to arrest a 41-year-old man when a 25-year-old man allegedly sprayed a fire extinguisher and threw chairs at officers.

Two male senior constables, aged 39 and 54, received non-life-threatening injuries.

Both alleged offenders were taken into custody a short time later.

A 41-year-old Biggera Waters man was charged with five counts of assault occasioning bodily harm in company, and two counts of obstruct police.

A 25-year-old Helensvale man was charged with five counts of assault occasioning bodily harm in company, and four counts of serious assault police officer whilst armed, all whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

Both are due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today, October 24.
