Police lay assault charges at Paradise Point

Police have charged a 22-year-old Hollywell woman following an alleged assault in Paradise Point yesterday.

On Friday March 10 at approximately 3pm, the woman boarded a bus travelling along The Esplanade and refused to pay her fare.

It will be alleged the passenger spat on the driver, a 51-year-old Pimpama man, before punching him in the face and arms.

An 85-year-old Paradise Point woman who tried to intervene was also allegedly assaulted.

The driver has removed the woman from the bus, and other members of the public assisted in holding her until police arrived.

The 22-year-old Hollywell woman was charged with one count each of serious assault (person over 60), assaults occasioning bodily harm and fare evasion.

She was granted bail and is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on April 14.
