Police lay charges after $50,000 worth of drugs seized during vehicle stop at Broken Hill

A man will face court next month charged after prohibited drugs were located following a vehicle stop in the state's far west on the weekend.

About 5pm on Saturday (12 February 2022), officers attached to Barrier Highway Patrol stopped a white station wagon on the Barrier Highway, about 10km west of Broken Hill, due to the driver's manner of driving.

The man was subject to a random breath and drug tests, allegedly returning a positive preliminary result for drugs.

After speaking with the driver, officers searched the vehicle allegedly locating a package, believed to be cannabis.

The package has an estimated potential street value of approximately $57,500.

The driver – a 52-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Broken Hill Police Station.

He was charged with supply prohibited drug, and possess prohibited drug.

The man was given conditional bail to appear at Broken Hill Local Court on Tuesday 15 March 2022.
