Police lay charges after elderly man defrauded at Brighton

A man has been charged after an elderly man was allegedly robbed and defrauded in Sydney's south.

Between Thursday 16 June and Friday 17 June 2022, a home on Hercules Road at Brighton Le Sands was broken into.

The intruder allegedly stole the 92-year-old occupant's medication and wallet, which contained his bank and personal cards.

It's further alleged the man's bank card was used multiple times over the following days at banks and businesses in World Square, Alexandria, and Eastgardens.

Police were notified on Saturday 18 June 2022 when the alleged theft and fraud was discovered.

Officers from St George Police Area Command commenced an investigation and, following inquiries, arrested a 44-year-old man at a Maroubra home about 10.30am yesterday (Thursday 7 July 2022).

The man, who is not known to the elderly man, was taken to Waverly Police Station where he was charged with multiple fraud-related offences.

He was refused bail to appear at Waverly Local Court today (Friday 8 July 2022).
