Police lay charges after evade in Melbourne's south

Detectives from Casey Crime Investigation Unit charged a man following an incident in Melbourne's south yesterday morning.

A black Mercedes fled after officers attempted to intercept it on the Monash Freeway, near Ernst Wanke Road about 1.50am.

Police arrested the man a short time later in Aspendale.

A search of the vehicle located four firearms along with a quantity of drugs and cash.

A 32-year-old Narre Warren man was charged with:

• Possession of a traffickable quantity of unregistered firearms

• Four counts of possess general category handgun

• Possess category C or D longarm firearm

• Contravention of a Firearm Prohibition Order

• Possess cartridge ammunition whilst not the holder of a licence under the Firearms Act

• Four counts of possess firearm with no serial number

• Prohibited person possess a firearm

• Possess loaded firearm in a public place

• Trafficking commercial quantity of methylamphetamines

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court for a filing hearing today 9 September 2021.

Investigators expect to lay further charges in relation to the matter.
