Police lay charges after fail-to-stop crash at Parramatta

Police have charged a man after four pedestrians were injured during a fail-to-stop crash at Parramatta yesterday.

Shortly before 9pm (Monday 28 December 2020), two men and two women were crossing at the intersection of Marsden Argyle Streets, Parramatta, when they were allegedly hit by a Ford Focus.

The Ford stopped and two men and a woman got out to assist the injured pedestrians, the two men then returned to the vehicle and drove away.

All pedestrians suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command attended and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Two men – aged 21 and 23 – and a 22-year-old woman were subsequently arrested by police when they returned to the scene.

All three were taken to Parramatta Police Station, where the older man was subject to a breath test and allegedly returned a positive result.

The man was unable to provide a satisfactory sample to a secondary breath analysis and was charged with fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury, not give particulars to injured person, negligent driving and drive vehicle under influence of alcohol.

Police will allege in court that the man was the driver of the Ford Focus and failed to stop at a red light before hitting four pedestrians.

He was given bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court 10 February 2021.

The younger man and the woman were released pending further inquiries.

The vehicle was located nearby and has been seized for examination.
