Police lay charges after firearms and explosives located near Cowra

A man will face court today after firearms and explosives were allegedly located on a property near Cowra.

About 9am yesterday (Thursday 10 September 2020), officers attached to Western Region Enforcement Squad, with assistance from the Western Domestic Violence team, Western trail bikes, Chifley Police District, Chifley Target Action Group, the Dog Unit and Police Rescue, executed a search warrant at Springvale Lane, Mount Collins.

Upon searching a shed on the property, police located and seized a variety of firearms – including two rifles, a large amount of ammunition and explosives.

A 70-year-old man was arrested and taken to Cowra Police Station.

He was charged with nine offences, including:

  • Possess more than three unregistered firearms without licence/permit
  • Possess unregistered firearm (prohibited firearm)
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (x2)
  • Possess, supply or make explosive for unlawful purpose (x2)
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Not keep firearm safely (not prohibited firearm/pistol), and
  • Not keep firearm safely (prohibited firearm)

The man was refused bail to appear in Bathurst Local Court today (Friday 11 September 2020).
