Police lay charges after girl approached at Burwood

A man will appear in court today charged after approaching a schoolgirl at Burwood.

Police have been told the 14-year-old girl was on her way to school about 8am (Tuesday 26 May 2020), when she was approached by a man outside Burwood Railway Station.

The man walked beside the girl down Burwood Road, allegedly trying to persuade her to go with him into the public toilets nearby.

The girl kept walking and alerted school authorities who contacted police.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command initiated inquiries and, about 2pm, a 58-year-old man was arrested on Victoria Street at Burwood.

He was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with Intentional incite child - over 10 and under 16 years - do sexual act to them.

He was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Wednesday 27 May 2020).
