A man will appear in court today charged following an investigation into a caravan fire in the state's Southern Highlands.
About 2.30am on Wednesday 7 July 2021, emergency services were called to Bowral Road at Mittagong following reports of a fire.
Officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and located a caravan well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze about an hour later, however; the caravan was destroyed.
Strike Force Kimball was subsequently established by officers from the Southern Highlands Criminal Investigation Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Initial inquiries indicated the fire was suspicious.
Following extensive investigations and a public appeal for information, Strike Force Kimball officers executed a search warrant at a home at Mittagong about 10am yesterday (Thursday 26 August 2021), seizing a mobile phone.
A 50-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Southern Highlands Police Station, where she was charged with hinder investigation and conceal serious indictable offence.
She was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday 7 September 2021.
Strike force investigators, with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), subsequently executed a second search warrant at a home at Welby about 5.10pm.
During the search, officers seized a number of items relevant to the investigation, including an electronic stun device.
A 26-year-old man was arrested and taken to Southern Highlands Police Station, where he was charged with damage property by fire (greater than $15,000).
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Moss Vale Local Court today (Friday 27 August 2021).
