Police lay charges after man makes bomb threats - Northmead

A man has been charged following an incident this morning in Sydneys' west which shut down major arterial roads.

About 4.40am (Sunday 29 March 2020), police were called to Windsor Road, at the James Ruse Drive overpass at Northmead, following reports a man had stopped his utility in traffic.

Officers from The Hills Police Area Command attended and spoke to the man who indicted he had an explosive device.

A perimeter was established with specialist police resources – including the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, the Tactical Operations Unit and negotiators – called to assist.

After negotiators spoke to the man, he surrendered and was arrested without further incident.

The 50-year-old man was taken to Castle Hill Police Station, where he was checked by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

A number of items have been seized from the scene; however initial examinations indicate these are not explosives.

The man has been charged with conveying false information that a person or property is in danger.

He has been refused bail, to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Monday 30 March 2020).
