Police lay charges after man pulls knife on plain clothes police officer - Surry Hills

A man will face court today after allegedly threatening a police officer with a knife in Surry Hills yesterday.

About 2.40pm (Tuesday 6 August 2019), a plain clothes police officer was walking along Crown Street, at the corner of Goulburn Street, when a 25-year-old man struck up a conversation with him.

It is alleged the man became aggressive and took a knife from his bag, advancing toward the officer.

At this point, the Senior Constable produced his police badge and identified himself as a police officer.

Following this, the man threw the knife and began to run – however the officer gave chase and arrested him a short distance away.

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with assault, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, possess knife, and an unrelated stealing he was wanted for.

The man was refused bail to appear before Central Local Court today (Wednesday 7 August 2019).
