Police lay charges - Aggravated assault at Tennant Creek

Northern Territory Police have charged four men in relation to a number of violent offences committed on Monday in Tennant Creek.

At around 8:45pm, the men aged between 18 and 23, allegedly attempted to rob two victims on Paterson Street.

A short time later, two of the men have then allegedly attempted to unlawfully enter a residence on Haddock Street.

Police attended the scene and arrested the 19-year-old, who was later charged with:

  • 1 x Robbery
  • 7 x Aggravated assault
  • 1 x Armed with an offensive weapon at night
  • 1 x Armed with a controlled weapon at night
  • 1 x Endanger occupants of a motor vehicle
  • 1 x Resist arrest
  • 1 x Furnish false name to member
  • 1 x Attempted unlawful entry
  • 1 x Possess less than traffickable schedule 2 substance
  • 1 x Disorderly in a police station
  • 1 x Disorderly in a public place

The 18-year-old was arrested the next day and charged with:

  • 6 x Aggravated assault
  • 1 x Armed with a offensive weapon at night

The 20-year-old was arrested on Thursday and charged with:

  • 1 x Robbery
  • 1 x Armed with a controlled weapon at night

The 23-year-old was arrested on Thursday and charged with:

  • 1 x Robbery
  • 1 x Armed with a controlled weapon at night

All four men were remanded to appear before Alice Springs Local Court today.

Senior Sergeant Glenn Bolger said, "This type of violent behaviour will not be tolerated. Residents deserve to feel safe on their streets and within their own homes. The safety of our community is our top priority."
