Police lay charges - Attempted child abduction at Tennant Creek

Northern Territory Police have charged a 19-year-old male in relation to an alleged child abduction that occurred in Tennant Creek on Sunday 19 July 2020.

About 12:30am, the male allegedly removed a sleeping 9-year-old girl from her home on Scheelite Crescent. The child woke outside of a nearby unit complex, screamed at the male and ran home to her family who notified police.

The male was later arrested and charged with abduction of a child under 16 years and trespass on enclosed premises.

He will appear in Alice Springs Local Court on 22 July 2020.

Police are reminding parents, carers and children to remember the four R's:

  • Recognising the danger
  • Refuse any offer
  • Run away
  • Report it to the first person they feel safe with.
