Police lay charges over armed robbery at Port Kembla

A man has been charged over an alleged armed robbery at a business near Port Kembla last week.

About 11am on Thursday 7 September 2023, officers form Lake Illawarra Police were called to a business in Weringa Avenue, Lake Heights, over an alleged robbery.

Police will allege in court that a man produced a firearm before threatening a female employee and stealing cash.

A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 41-year-old man in Court Lane, Wollongong, at 7.30pm on Friday (8 September 2023).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, and possess prohibited drug.

The Port Kembla man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Saturday (9 September 2023), where he was refused bail to appear before on Wednesday 20 September 2023.
