Police lay charges over carjack, pursuit through Sydney's west

A man is due in Liverpool Local Court today charged over an alleged carjacking and pursuit in Sydney's west.

Just after 9am yesterday (Monday 6 February 2023), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command attempted to stop a blue Suzuki on Hoxton Park Road, Green Valley.

When the driver allegedly failed to comply, a pursuit was initiated, continuing through surrounding suburbs.

The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns; however, the vehicle was seen entering the carpark of a shopping centre on George Street, Liverpool. It is alleged the driver then left the vehicle, running through the shopping centre.

An 18-year-old man was arrested a short time later following a coordinated response involving the North West Metropolitan Operations Support Group, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and the Dog Unit.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment of a hand injury. The man was released into police custody late yesterday and has now been charged with six offences,

• Robbery while armed with dangerous weapon

• Destroy or damage property

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

• Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous

• Possess prohibited drug, and

• Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

He's been refused bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court today (Tuesday 7 February 20223).

Police will allege in court the man threatened a woman in a shopping centre car park at Parramatta on Friday afternoon (3 February 2023), before stealing her car.
