Police lay charges over child abuse and neglect at Fairfield

A woman will appear in court today charged over the alleged abuse and neglect of two children in Fairfield.

About 12pm yesterday (Monday 18 November 2019), police were called to a home on Joyce Street, Fairfield, following reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and found two boys, aged five and seven, severely malnourished, neglected, and home alone.

Police contacted NSW Ambulance paramedics, and the children were taken to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for immediate medical treatment.

A crime scene was established.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 23-year-old woman at the home.

The Fairfield woman was taken to Fairfield Police Station where she was charged with abandon/expose child under seven cause danger serious injury, and not provide for child cause danger of serious injury (x2).

She was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Tuesday 19 November 2019).

The children are now under the care of the Department and Communities of Justice.
