Police lay charges over fatal crash - Beecroft

A man has been charged after a pedestrian died following a two-vehicle crash in Sydney's north-west overnight.

About 8.30pm (Tuesday 21 March 2023), emergency services were called to the intersection of Beecroft Road and Hannah Street, Beecroft, following reports a Toyota Hilux utility and a Nissan Tiida sedan had collided before two pedestrians were then struck by a vehicle.

One pedestrian, a 55-year-old woman, died at the scene. The second pedestrian, a 54-year-old woman, was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Nissan, a 47-year-old man was not injured.

The 20-year-old male driver of the Toyota, who holds a P2 provisional driver licence, was not injured and was taken to Ryde Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following inquiries, the 20-year-old man was arrested at Ryde Hospital and taken to Ryde Police Station.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - drive manner dangerous, and not stop at stop line at red light.

The Thornleigh man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Wednesday 22 March 2023).
