Police lay charges over property offences in Alice Springs 14 February

Detectives from Strike Force Viper have charged two males over an unlawful entry at a licensed premises in Alice Springs on 12 February.

Police CCTV operators observed the incident in progress around 4:40am, deploying units to the location.

A 20-year-old male who had been attempting to force entry to the business was seen on CCTV turning to speak with a youth who subsequently joined the man in smashing the glass doors.

The first offender left the scene and the youth continued causing damage, fleeing as police arrived.

The man was located a few minutes later and taken into custody. He has been charged with:

  • Damage to property
  • Recruit a child
  • Unlawful entry

He was remanded to appear on 14 February 2022.

The 14-year-old male was located some hours later and charged with:

  • Unlawful entry
  • Criminal damage

The youth was also arrested in relation to another incident on 11 February and faces charges of:

  • Unlawful entry
  • Stealing
  • Criminal damage

He was remanded to appear 14 February 2022.

Detective Senior Sergeant Evan Kelly said, "Thanks to the Police CCTV operators who observed this incident, police were able to attend the scene within minutes and arrest the offenders."
