Police lay charges over Taylors Lakes fatal

Detectives from Major Collision Investigation Unit have charged a man following an alleged hit and run collision which occurred in Taylors Lakes this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Melton Highway near McCubbin Drive at 6.40am after reports of a collision between a vehicle and cyclist.

The male cyclist, a 49-year-old from Taylors Lakes, died at the scene.

It is believed the driver of the vehicle initially did not stop, however came forward to police about 7.30am.

A 20-year-old Avondale Heights man has been interviewed and charged with culpable driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, fail to stop and fail to render assistance.

He will be presented at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
