Northern Territory Police have charged 48-year-old woman for assaulting a police officer on Friday 10 July 2020.
At around 8:00pm, police were returning to the station when they came across a man assaulting the woman. The man was arrested by police. However, during the process the woman allegedly armed herself with a stick and struck the officer before fleeing the scene.
The woman was later arrested and charged with assaulting a member of the police force and assault person who suffered harm.
Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said, "The member spent a number of hours in the clinic for observation.
"It is disappointing in an effort to assist, the officer has instead been assaulted by her in a violent way. Thankfully the member was not seriously harmed."
Under section 189A of the Criminal Code Act 1983, assaults on police or emergency workers carry maximum penalties of imprisonment of 16 years.
