Police make arrest after carjacking

Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives are interviewing a man following an alleged carjacking which occurred in North Wendouree on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators have been told a man was sitting in his car in Gillies Street about 1.40pm on Tuesday 7 March when another man walked up to his vehicle.

The man demanded the victim get out of the car and smashed the driver's window with the butt of a knife.

The victim's hand was cut yet he managed to escape by exiting through the passenger's side door.

The offender got into the victim's black Holden Commodore and drove off.

Police searched the area, located the car on Ballarat-Daylesford Road in Dean a short time later and arrested the driver.

A 37-year-old Alfredton man is currently in custody and assisting police with their enquires.
