A man has been arrested and charged with numerous offences after a crash in Launceston overnight, 16 June 2026.
At 1.20am, police observed a green Ford Festiva driving along Bathurst Street and speed through the traffic lights towards Launceston. Due to the driving behaviour, police activated lights and sirens to pull the vehicle over.
The vehicle had immediately turned into Frederick Street, drove through a red light, then hit a roundabout and rolled multiple times. The 29-year-old ran from the scene and was arrested nearby.
He was taken to the Launceston General Hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.
He was later charged with:
- Evade Police (Aggravated Circumstances)
- Reckless driving
- Use vehicle whilst registration suspended
- Unlawful possession of property
- Possess controlled plant or its products.
