Police make arrest after pursuit at Ballarat

A man has been arrested after a Mitsubishi Pajero evaded police in Ballarat this morning.

Officers attempted to intercept the silver Pajero, which was towing a trailer, on Gillies Street, Wendouree, about 7.38am.

The Pajero evaded police by driving through a red light at the intersection of Sturt Street and Gilles Street, Alfredton and entering Victoria Park.

Police stopped following due to safety concerns.

Police received further information that the Pajero had become bogged in the park.

Units attended around 8am and the Pajero was seen driving around walking tracks, forcing a number of pedestrians to jump out of the way.

Police pursued the vehicle due to the dangerous driving on display.

The vehicle was stopped in Park Street and the driver, a 28-year-old Wendouree man, arrested.

He is expected to be interviewed for reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police, possess drug of dependence, possess controlled weapon and other traffic offences.
