Police make arrest - Assault in Alice Springs 16 November

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man after an assault in Alice Springs overnight.

Shortly before 8pm, police received reports that a 40-year-old man had been assaulted by a 43-year-old man on the corner of Kempe Street and Gap Road. The victim was believed to be carrying a glass bottle, which broke when he fell to the ground, injuring him further. The offender, believed to be known to the victim, fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Alice Springs Hospital in a stable condition.

Witness statements identified the alleged offender, and a short time later police arrested a 43-year-old man.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Schumacher said "General duties, drone operators and the Criminal Investigations Branch were all involved in this arrest.

"While police were processing the crime scene, a two person pedestrians strike occurred with a man and a woman both suffering head injuries requiring treatment at Alice Springs Hospital. The driver stopped at the scene, investigations remain ongoing."
