Police make arrest - Property offending in Alice Springs 4 February

Strike Force Viper have arrested a 17-year-old male in relation to two incidents in Alice Springs last month.

It will be alleged the youth was identified in a trespass incident at a Gillen address on 29 January, and a property damage and stealing incident at a laundromat on 31 January.

Police are urging victims of crime to report their offences prior to posting on social media platforms.

"We urge all victims of crime to contact police in the first instance," said A/Sgt Shane King

"Police identified one of the offenders in these incidents via CCTV footage uploaded to social media and proactively followed up with the victim.

"We recognise social media helps the community in providing an online neighbourhood watch style of communication. However in order to investigate the incident, we require victims to make the report."

The offender was refused police bail and is to be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
