Police make arrests after violent burglary, Molendinar

Police have arrested two men after two Molendinar residents were allegedly threatened with a firearm when they disturbed a burglary yesterday afternoon.

It will be alleged a stolen silver Hyundai attended an address on Kingsway Drive around 2:30pm and one of the male occupants of the vehicle kicked in the front door of the home.

A second man remained in the stolen vehicle while his alleged accomplice began taking items from the house.

Two men from an address nearby noticed the unknown car and went to confront the driver, with one of them parking their ute in front of the vehicle.

It is alleged the driver of the Hyundai then put on a mask and presented a firearm, pointing it at the man sitting in the ute, a 22-year-old.

The man then drove the stolen car across the front lawn in order to flee and the second neighbour, a 47-year-old man, approached on foot.

The man allegedly drove the Hyundai straight at him, running over his foot in the process.

The 22-year-old driver of the ute followed the stolen car and rammed it from the back. The second man then exited the home with various items of stolen property and jumped in the car, which then fled the scene as it was rammed again.

Police attended a short time later and the 47-year-old man was taken for treatment to a suspected fractured foot.

It is further alleged at around 3:30pm an unmarked police vehicle conducting patrols along Davebill Court in Labrador observed the same silver Hyundai parked in the street.

As two men returned to the car from a nearby residence the officer attempted to block the vehicle in however was rammed as it was driven from the scene.

A cordon was set up and it is further alleged the stolen car travelled directly towards an officer on foot attempting to intercept the vehicle.

The officer took evasive action and the car collided with a power pole.

Two men were immediately taken into custody. One was transported to hospital with minor injuries from the crash.

A search of the stolen car allegedly uncovered a shot gun and ammunition.

A 30-year-old Beenleigh man has been charged with dangerous conduct with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, authority required to possess explosives, burglary, receiving tainted property, stealing, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

A 30-year-old man is also assisting police with their inquiries. Investigations are continuing.
