Police make arrests over assault, Peregian Springs

Detectives from Sunshine Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged a Mount Coolum man in relation to a number of alleged assaults involving the use of a gel blaster across Peregian Springs.

It will be alleged the 18-year-old man and two other males yet to be identified drove around the and fired gel balls at two adults and a 13-year-old boy.

Investigations indicate the victims were alleged to have been selected at random and suffered minor bruising as a result.

Detectives executed a search warrant on a Mount Coolum address where it will be alleged a gel blaster and quantity of gel balls were located.

The man has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of common assault.

He is expected to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 1.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is aware of concerns surrounding the use of gel ball blasters in Queensland.

Whilst possession of gel blasters is not an offence in Queensland, the misuse of these devices in this manner is of concern to police and the community and could result in serious criminal charges.
