Police Nab Man After Car Hits 200km/h in South Suburbs

Bayside police officers have arrested the alleged driver of a speeding vehicle in Melbourne's southern suburbs early hours this morning.

Police caught sight of a white Holden Commodore in the back streets of Brighton about 1.30am.

The Holden was allegedly spotted at speeds exceeding 200km/h on the Nepean Highway.

The vehicle was later seen entering a carpark on Jamieson Street in Cheltenham before the occupants left the car.

Officers searched the area and arrested the alleged driver.

A search was conducted on the 44-year-old Seaford man and police seized keys alleged to belong to the Holden as well as a drug of dependence.

Police searched the vehicle and seized a machete, a balaclava, housebreaking implements and an electronic device often used to gain access to and steal cars.

The Seaford man will be interviewed by police.

The Holden was impounded.

Investigators allege the same vehicle was spotted earlier in the morning exceeding the speed limits on Beach Road.
