A man has been arrested following the alleged theft of a grocery truck and pursuit across Sydney this morning.
About 6am today (Wednesday 23 July 2025), police were called to Olympic Parade, Bankstown, and were told a 23-year-old truck driver was allegedly hit with a stun device and assaulted by a man who then stole his truck.
The driver was initially taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was checked by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Bankstown Hospital for further treatment.
Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident and made attempts to locate the truck.
Just before 9am, police attached to St George Police Area Command were travelling on the Princes Highway at Rockdale when they saw the truck and attempted to stop it.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued at Wolli Creek, where the truck allegedly hit four parked cars but did not stop.
The pursuit was then terminated due to safety concerns and the truck was last seen continuing onto the M8.
Police – with the assistance of PolAir – continued to monitor the truck, which then travelled westbound onto the M4.
The truck continued to travel on the M4 for some time before police successfully deployed road spikes at the Great Western Highway at Glenbrook.
The truck came to a stop a short time later at Blaxland and the driver was arrested following the deployment of a Taser, with the assistance of the Dog Unit and the Public Order and Riot Squad.
A 29-year-old man was taken to Springwood Police Station, and later taken to Nepean Hospital to be checked for minor injuries sustained during the arrest.
Inquiries are ongoing.
