Police Nab Suspect in 2025 Woman's Murder Case

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Branch today arrested a 37-year-old man of no fixed address in connection with the murder of Michelle Sumner, which occurred on 20 January 2025.

Michelle was found unresponsive at Edwards Park in the southern parklands. While the cause of death was initially unclear, subsequent forensic examination determined she died from an assault.

The matter was declared a major crime and detectives have since worked extensively to establish the circumstances surrounding Michelle's death.

The arrested man has been charged with murder and refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow, Tuesday 16 December.

Both Parties were known to each other.

Detective Acting Superintendent Andrew Macrae said: "This arrest marks a significant step forward in what has been a long and complex investigation. We hope today's development offers Michelle's family some measure of comfort."
