Police Nab Three for Abuse of Office, Fraud

Anti Corruption Section detectives have arrested a 42-year-old man from the southern suburbs for abuse of public office and dishonest dealing with documents in connection with his occupation as an Authorised Examiner.

Authorised Examiners are appointed by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to conduct practical driving tests and issue certificates of competency for drivers to obtain or upgrade their licence.

Detectives have also arrested a 45-year-old male police officer, also from the southern suburbs, and a 49-year-old male State Government employee from the Adelaide Hills for aiding and abetting the Authorised Examiner and for dishonestly dealing with documents.

It will be alleged that the other two men committed these offences while working in their capacity as driving instructors.

All three men were arrested this morning (Thursday 19 March) and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 3 June.

Following his arrest the male police officer has been suspended from duty.

The three arrests are part of an ongoing investigation and no further comment will be made at this time.

Police urge anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
