Police officer charged with child sex offences in Northern Region

A serving police officer has been charged with child sexual assault offences after an investigation by Professional Standards Command, NSW Police say.

An investigation into the alleged historical offences commenced in 2016, when a report was made to police.

The offences allegedly occurred in 2009 and involved the alleged sexual and indecent assault of a nine-year-old girl in the Central Coast region.

Following investigations by the Professional Standards Command (PSC), today, a 48-year-old man, currently employed as a senior constable attached to a Local Area Command in the Northern Region, was arrested at Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with sexual intercourse person under ten (x1), and aggravated indecent assault (x2).

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 23 February 2017.
