Police Officer, Man Injured At Bankstown

A man is under police guard in hospital, and a police officer is also receiving treatment, after they were injured during a foot pursuit at Bankstown earlier today.

Police were patrolling a hotel on South Terrace about 11.30am today (Thursday 22 April 2026), where they stopped and spoke to a 33-year-old man.

As police were speaking to the man, he allegedly ran from the premises.

A foot pursuit commenced during which the 33-year-old man and an officer ran onto the road and were struck by a SUV.

They were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics; before the 33-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition. That man has since been arrested after drugs were allegedly found in his possession and he remains in hospital under police guard.

The male senior constable has been taken to hospital to be checked for head and leg injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command have established a crime scene and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
