Police officer struck in Mount Duneed collision

A policeman has sustained serious injuries following a crash in Mount Duneed today, Victoria Police say.

It is believed the officer was standing next to a stationary marked police vehicle on the Surf Coast Highway, near Mount Duneed Road, when a vehicle crashed into his car shortly after 1pm.

The male sergeant has been taken to hospital with what are understood to be non-life threatening leg injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old Melton West man, was taken to hospital under police guard and is receiving what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.

Police had been monitoring the man following reports of erratic behaviour earlier today.
