A 38 year old police officer from the North-West will be proceeded against by summons for allegedly committing a common assault contrary to section 35(1) of the Police Offences Act 1935.
The assault is alleged to have occurred on 11 June 2016, whilst the officer was responding to an incident during the course of his duties.
The charge arises from an internal investigation that was conducted following a complaint from a member of the public.
The officer has been placed on non-operational duties and will appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court at 9.45am on Tuesday 11 April 2017, Tasmania Police say.
