Police officers set to receive pay rise

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

I am pleased to announce that the Tasmanian Government has reached an agreement with the Police Association of Tasmania on wages and employment conditions for an 18-month period, which includes wage increases for our State's police officers.

The agreement also includes payment of overtime for designated country police stations, increases to parental leave conditions, provision of minimum superannuation contributions during the first 12 months of unpaid parental leave, and clarity on flexibility in service conditions.

The wage increase includes recognition of the fact that Tasmanian police officers were the only public sector employees who undertook a pay pause during 2014, and delivers on the Government's commitment to resolve the issue of the pay pause once and for all with a 2 per cent wage increase fully backdated to 1 December 2020 in recognition of the pay pause.

The agreement also includes a 2.3 per cent increase to be backdated to 1 July 2021 and there will be a 1 per cent wage increase from 1 December 2021 to align future wage rises to a 1 December cycle each year, with the next wage rise now not due to be paid until 1 December 2022.

This agreement is in recognition of the hard work and service that our police officers provide to the Tasmanian community, which has particularly been the case over the last 18 months as we have continued to deal with the impacts of COVID-19.

I would also like to acknowledge the Police Association of Tasmania and I thank the Association for its willingness to work with us in reaching this agreement.
