Police operation targets Rebels, TAS

Tasmania Police have this morning conducted a traffic operation within the grounds of the Spirit of Tasmania terminal at East Devonport, targeting a group of Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) members returning to Tasmania, Tasmania Police say.

The operation utilised personnel from Western Road and Public Order Services (RPOS), Devonport Uniform, Western Criminal Investigation Branch, Western Drug Investigation Service and Western Forensic Services, incorporating the use of a police dog with drug detection capability.

During the operation police detected the following alleged traffic offences: three unregistered motorcycles and one suspended driver/rider.  A number of oral fluid tests were conducted on members of the Rebels OMCG.  Police are awaiting final analytical results of blood tests relating to the oral fluid tests.

Acting Inspector Martin Parker of Devonport Police said "Tasmania Police is committed to disrupting the criminal activities of OMCGs, including the detection of traffic offences."

"The community can be assured that Tasmania Police will continue to closely monitor OMCG members’ activities and movements.  OMCGs will find Tasmania is not receptive to them."
