Police probe after man attacked in Rockdale

Police are investigating after a man was attacked in Sydney’s south, NSW Police say.

Just after 7pm on Sunday yesterday, emergency services were called to an aged care facility on Fredrick Street, Rockdale.

Police have been told a man entered one of the rooms, allegedly armed with a knife, and attacked a man, before fleeing the scene.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated a 72-year-old man for lacerations to his neck, arms and hands before taking him to St George Hospital in a serious condition. It is expected the man will undergo surgery today.

Officers attached to St George Local Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police arrested a man, also aged 72, and took him to St George Police Station where he was charged him with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

He was bail refused to appear at Sutherland Local Court today.
