Police probe armed robbery of woman in Wollongong

Police have commenced inquiries into the armed robbery of a woman in  a suburb 5 km north of Wollongong earlier today.

Around 11.30am Wednesday, a woman was confronted by two men – one armed with a knife – in the communal laundry of a building on Towradgi Road, Towradgi, NSW Police said.

The men robbed the woman of her purse and phone before leaving the scene on foot.

Police were notified of the incident and, after speaking to the woman, conducted a canvass of the area.

They located her phone and purse a short distance away.

Officers from the Wollongong Local Area Command are now looking for the men responsible for the robbery.

One of them is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 20s, with scruffy brown hair and hairy arms. He is believed to be 165 – 175cm tall, and at the time of the robbery was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt, blue denim shorts and white joggers.

The second man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 20s, around 175cm tall, with a skinny build, and scruffy black hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white, short-sleeved shirt, white joggers and long, white socks that were pulled up.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
