Police are appealing for information as investigations continue into a suspected hit-and-run incident on the state's South Coast earlier this week.
About 12.30pm on Monday 31 August 2026, emergency services were called to Newtown Road, Bega, following reports a man had been struck by a vehicle.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 73-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to South East Regional Hospital in a serious condition.
Officers attached to South Coast Police District were informed that the man was allegedly involved in an altercation with the female driver of another vehicle.
The man allegedly got out of his car and was walking towards the other vehicle when it reversed into him.
The vehicle then left the scene.
Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 1 September 2026), police were notified that the 73-year-old man had died in hospital.
Specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the matter.
Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the Newtown Road, Bega area between 12pm and 12.30pm on Monday 31 August 2026.
In particular, police are hoping to speak with the driver of a grey or light blue, 1997-2002 model Subaru station wagon that was seen in the area prior to the incident.
The driver is described as a woman believed to be in her 20s.
