Police probe fire in Ermington

An investigation is underway after a number of units were destroyed following a fire in Ermington last night, NSW Police say.

About 7pm today, emergency services were called to a unit on Bartlett Street following reports of an explosion.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended, and about 9.30pm extinguished the blaze which had spread to a number of neighbouring units in the same complex.

Two people were taken to hospital; a 51-year-old man from the unit the fire originated suffering serious burns; and one man from a different unit suffering smoke-inhalation.

About 43 people were escorted from the building during the incident; police have received no further reports of injury.

A number of units within the complex were completely destroyed.

Officers from Rosehill Local Area Command attended and are investigating the cause of the fire, which has not yet been determined if suspicious or not.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
