Police probe following robbery in Wollongong

Police are investigating after a man was robbed of cash and jewellery in Wollongong today, NSW Police say.

Between 5.00am and 5.30am today, a 33-year-old man was walking on Foley Street, North Wollongong, where he was approached by two men.

The first man demanded a cigarette, before assaulting the 33-year-old man.

The second man hit the 33-year-old man with a hammer, and threatened him with a knife, demanding his wallet and mobile phone.

Police have been told the armed pair forced the man to his home, before ransacking it and fleeing with cash and jewellery.

Officers attached to Wollongong Local Area Command were called and commenced an investigation.

The 33-year-old man suffered head and minor facial injuries, however declined treatment.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to two men who might be able to assist them.

The first man is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his 20’s, between 170 cm and 175cm tall, of medium build, with brown hair.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 30’s, between 180cm- 185cm tall, and of solid build.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
